Our traditional fish buffet on Ash Wednesday
Hello my dear friends
Alma and I really filled our bellies last Wednesday. Namely at the Ash Wednesday fish buffet. Mhmmmm, it was all delicious. I have to admit, Lent for the Catholic Church starts on Ash Wednesday.
But fish is allowed, so we haven't sinned ;-) In Tyrol, many traditions are linked to the church, so it has now become a tradition at the Tirolerhof to have an extensive fish buffet on Ash Wednesday.
Why is Ash Wednesday actually called that? At least that's what Alma and I asked ourselves. If anyone else has asked themselves this question, here is the answer: At the beginning of Lent, the ashes of the burned palm branches of the previous year are consecrated and these ashes are used to make the sign of the cross to the believers in the service. Hence Ash Wednesday.
But now I've chatted enough, I'll let the pictures do the talking.
See you next time,
your Sturmi
